About Pilates
Pilates will help to develop core strength and spinal mobility. Core strength is the foundation of the Pilates exercise system. The core muscles are the deep, internal, stabilising muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. When the trunk is properly stabilised, pressure on the back is relieved allowing the body to move more freely and efficiently. Pilates also help to improve or restore spinal mobility by stretching and strengthening all of the muscles supporting the spine. Good core strength and spinal mobility results in a body which moves with greater ease and resists injury.
Stott Pilates is a contemporary approach to the original Pilates method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. It is a very precise exercise system where the message is 'Quality not Quantity'
You are taught to align your body perfectly before starting an exercise, and then to isolate individual muscle groups and work them without putting strain on other areas. You will be astonished by the gentleness of Pilates. The exercises are deceptively simple, even minimal, and so effective that you need only perform a small number of repetitions of each at a session. Your muscles will feel more toned and your joints will be looser and more supple. Some people claim to get taller as their spine is stretched and strengthened. Your posture in everyday life will improve as you strengthen the body's central core muscles. All of the exercises are designed to help isolate, activate and condition the deep stabilising muscles of the body and restore the natural curves of the spine. This strengthens the body and corrects posture which can be the cause of many back or shoulder problems, injuries or pain. You will learn to stand straight and hold your upper body correctly.
Pilates requires total concentration as you breath to enhance the effectivness of your movements and focus on the feeling in your muscles. Stott Pilates aims to optimise musculoskeletal performance, strength, flexibility and endurance without risking injury or building bulk. It results in a balanced and aligned body that looks fit, feels revitalised and moves with ease. Stott Pilates - The Benefits
